Benefits

Synthetic | Lather

Sodium Hydroxide or NaOH is a white, crystalline substance used in the creation of soap, paper and textiles. Also known as Lye or caustic soda, sodium hydroxide saponifies the oils we put in each bar of soap.

NaOH, sodium hydroxide, lye or caustic soda is a key ingredient in the saponification process (of which all our artisan, sea salt and simple soaps go through) that is a reaction between the sodium hydroxide and oils which are made up of triglycerides (fatty acids and glycerine). When combined the reaction splits the oils into a fatty acid salt we know as soap and glycerine which is a beautiful humectant and skin loving ingredient.
